A Light Exists

I’m still in the trenches, bogged down with the whole "upgrade my life to version 1.4" thing, but I wanted to stop in and wish you all a very happy Spring and blessed Easter.
I also wanted to say thank you (again) for your continued expressions of support. As dark as these days have been for me of late, the warmth and love you’ve shown me has been a true light into my world. I am indeed a fortunate man to have friends such as you. You amaze me with your kindness and incredible generosity, and you give me strength by sharing your encouraging words and radiant spirits.
I’ll try to be back as soon as I can, in one way or another.
I adore you…each and every one.
- Duane (drp)

08/12/2009: Lights of Christmas

Everyday for the Month of December (starting on the 7th), a photo will be taken of a house with an amazing display of Christmas lights!
December 8th, 2009!
Near Bayview & Steeles
Brothers Martin and Andrew Lindsay at 4 Rosea Court in Markham have raised over ,000 for charity with their annual Lindsay Lights display. It consists of over 70,000 lights, and draws as much as 30,000 watts of power. (You may be relieved to know that the Lindsays are saving more than 14Kw since last year, because they’ve started switching to LEDs.) The house is wired to run a four-minute show either to a voiceover or to this year’s theme song: "Wizards In Winter" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra (via radio at 104.9 FM). The Lindsays donate the money raised each year to local charities that benefit children and animals, like Sick Kids Hospital and the Humane Society.

Canon PowerShot S95 Low Light Street Test

P mode, 28mm (equiv), f/2.0 @ 1/30th
Auto ISO chose ISO 160, -2/3EV
The S95 handles low light and retains neon light detail quite well. Metering is also quite reliable as seen here (set to Evaluative).

Aurora Borealis, the colored lights seen in the skies around the North Pole, the Northern Lights, from Bear Lake, Alaska, Beautiful Christmas Scene, Winter Star Filled Skies, Scenic Nature

Higher than the highest mountain, higher than the highest airplane, lies the realm of the aurora.
Aurora rarely reach below 60 kilometers, and can range up to 1000 kilometers. Aurora light results from solar shockwave causing energetic electrons and protons to striking molecules in the Earth’s atmosphere.
Frequently, when viewed from space, a complete aurora will appear as a circle around one of the Earth’s magnetic poles.
The above digitally enhanced photograph was taken in 2005 January shows a spectacular aurora borealis above the frozen landscape of Bear Lake, Alaska, USA. Credit: Joshua Strang, USAF

Oh, This Morning Light that Dances fills my heart…

Yes, I know, this is nothing but thy love, O beloved of my heart -
This golden light that dances upon the leaves,
These idle clouds sailing across the sky,
This passing breeze leaving its coolness upon my forehead.
-Rabindranath Tagore ( Nobel Laureate Indian Poet )

Canon PowerShot S95 Low Light Sample

This photo is a JPEG straight out of camera. Aspect ratio crop and watermark added in Lightroom 3–no other post work was done.
The Canon S95 is my new go-to camera when I don’t feel like lugging my D700 around town to take shots in low light.
The new Hybrid IS, stereo 720p HD video recording and ergonomic improvements make the S95 a worthy, if slight, upgrade to the already fantastic S90.
Full review on my blog soon. Stay tuned!
